The trouble is hate and standing opinions get in the way. Respect is the basic thing we need: I live from the labor of others — the farmer, the handcrafter, the serviceman — and they from mine. A country is like a crew on a ship: if not everybody keeps his post, it doesn’t survive a storm. From the smallest man to the president, everybody is needed. Our neighbor is not our enemy, and there ain’t any strangers, only friends you don’t know. It reaches the whole world: they are all people like you and me. Respect for everybody is the minimum for a world that works — based not on profit but on social competence.
