Instead of asking what really drives us, everyone defends a fixed position — left or right, political or religious — and a standing opinion that won’t convert into anything else. That way we only create a war of opinions, and a war of opinions never makes a good outcome. So maybe it is time to take a breath, step back, and ask ourselves what we really want. What we want is simple and natural: to build a family, a well-being, and a future for our kids — the same thing every living creature, every bird and every animal, reaches for. From there we look at what it really takes to live well together: a place to live, cooperation, and a community where each person’s skills and work support everyone else. Nobody has to classify themselves as one side or the other, because basically we are human beings aiming for the same natural things. Machines can help us be productive, but they cannot replace us, because then the cooperation in the community is gone. Economy alone cannot decide what we need — social competence does.
